My tendency would be to follow the directional design on YOUR deck and to use ‘original’ directions where the design doesn’t show any. So if you want to incorporate directional meanings, you either follow the designs on your card, or ‘add in’ what they originally were. Unfortunately, not all decks (and annoyingly, this includes the Fin de Siecle) have the original directions in the designs (or sometimes any directions at all). One of the reasons is that directionality affects not only the meanings of placement with the people cards, but also some of the others. I’m using here pictures from the classic style Bavarian deck. If circled by more negative cards, it can bring family sorrow. The image can stand for a younger sister, a best friend, or even a mistress, depending on the cards surrounding it and the context of the reading. The Rich girl acts in good faith and is often child-like, even if she is beyond teen years. Her loving but sensitive disposition occasionally prompts her to petulant behaviour and jealousy.
